William Cooper is a student currently studying Photography at the University of Portsmouth.

One of his great passions is the Highland Bagpipe. Playing since the age of 8 he has performed for many years at a vast range of occasions. Performances include concerts with the Lucknow Band of the Prince of Whales’ Division, playing at the Grange Park Opera house, numerous military functions and performing for the Duke of Edinburgh. In addition he has won medals in solo piping competitions.

Photography is a huge part of William’s artistic practice. Working hard on the University degree he has produced a diverse body of work concerning photographic art. He gained experience that informed his practice when last summer he assisted the acclaimed photographer Henry Dallal who is active in creating works for much of the Household Cavalry regiments publicity and events.

The series that will be displayed is entitled ‘POWER’. It was photographed exclusively at Canary Wharf, London. The work was mainly inspired by the German photographer Andreas Gursky. Manipulating vantage point to further the subject’s dominance is a key conceptual factor. The work utilizes the repetitive nature of the buildings and exploits this with full frame compositions. It explores this unique financial area of London representing it in a dominating fashion. The series was taken using a film based medium format camera and was hand printed and mounted by William.
