Help Our Causes
Basingstoke Unicorn Summer Picnic 2010 was a Great Success and
Raised Over £3,500 in add of help the heros and other local charities

VISITORS were treated to large doses of music, sunshine and fun at a fundraising bash in Basingstoke.

Charitable group the Basingstoke Unicorns held its annual summer picnic in the grounds of the Grade II-listed Worting House, in Church Lane, Worting.

More than ten acts took to the stage throughout the afternoon while about 400 people sat on the grass and tucked into food and drink.

Acts included local rapper MCX, street band Drum n bRass and rock bands Exit Strategy and Fuzed.

There was also a display of classic Italian sports cars by the Wessex Area Ferrari Club, an ice-cream van, a beer tent and a second-hand book stall.

Sarah Woods, of Stag Hill, South Ham, Basingstoke, came to the event with her two-year-old daughter Maisie. The 35-year-old said: “It’s nice to have somewhere where you can bring your kids that has music on, and it’s for a good cause as well.”

This year, the event was held in aid of Help for Heroes, the charity set up to provide better services for wounded British servicemen and women, and a host of more local charities.

Speaking last Saturday, organiser Steve Day said: “There are 22 of us in our group and we spend all of our spare time raising money for local causes. It has gone very well. We have got a good crowd and we are hopeful we will raise a couple of thousand pounds at least.”
